You were adored so highly, you dear!
Therefore we now must bear the sorrow
Out here in this foreign land.
Yes, husband and children you loved sincerely,
But here you were suddenly laid to rest
And never can be called back.

We will hope the knowledge of the Lord
Will always be upon our wanderings.
Be with us in the hope, surely
To meet the one for whom we sorrow
Where neither loss or opposition shall be found
But to view Him, the Lord Christ.

Note: In 1872 Jens and his family had just arrived in America and were in Chicago. There, Jens' wife Dorthea and youngest son Anton died within a few days of each other. Jens wrote this memorial for Dorthea and buried her and his son in Chicago then moved on, with his 3 remaining children, Peter S., Peder O., and Maren, to settle in Dannebrog, Nebraska area.

Dorthe married Jens Petersen Sixhøj [42307] [MRIN: 15238], son of Mourids Peder Jensen Sixhøj [42141] and Else Marie Pedersdatter [42306], on 5 Nov 1858 in Skjoldborg Sogn, Hundborg Herred, Thisted Amt.²¹⁶⁸⁴ (Jens Petersen Sixhøj [42307] was born on 18 Mar 1829 in Sjørring Sogn, Hundborg Herred, Thisted Amt, christened on 29 Mar 1829 in Sjørring Sogn, Hundborg Herred, Thisted Amt,²¹⁶⁸⁸ died on 14 Mar 1908 in Dry Creek, Pierce, Howard County, Nebraska, United States and was buried in Mar 1908 in Dannebrog, Howard County, Nebraska, United States.). The cause of his death was bronchitis & cystitus.
