Peder O. Nielsen [53823]
General Notes: From the book, "Hetland, My Hometown, Centennial Book 1888-1988": We have known for years about the sod houses made by early pioneers for their first dwellings. Peder Nielsen came from Thisted, Denmark, to the country north of Badger. He was a sod house constructor in the 1880s and helped newcomers build their sod shelters. Of special note is the fact that he supervised the building of the first Danish Lutheran Church, erected when the congregation was established. It was a sod Temple to the people who cherished and attended it. Of interest also, to us in Hetland, is the fact that Peder Nielsen was Martin Steffensen's grandfaather. Peder married Maren Kirstine Hansen Græsbøl [53824] [MRIN: 19701], daughter of Hans Pedersen Græsbøll [76187] and Maren Poulsdatter [76186], in 1882 in United States. (Maren Kirstine Hansen Græsbøl [53824] was born on 9 Nov 1861 in Græsbøl, Lild Sogn, Vester Han Herred, Thisted Amt, died on 7 Dec 1944 in Badger, Kingsbury County, South Dakota, United States and was buried in Dec 1944 in Danish Lutheran Cemetery, Badger, Kingsbury County, South Dakota, United States.) |
