Hastings - Miriam Schade, 74 , of Hastings died Sunday, Oct 11, 2009, at Good Samaritan Center, Perkins Pavillion, in Hastings.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul. The Rev. Robert Carlson, Jr. will officiate. Interment will be at Loup Fork Cemetery near Boelus.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Schade was born Sept. 29, 1935, at Grand Island, to Christian and Anna (Christensen)Petersen.

Survivors of the immediate family include her husband, Gaylord of Hastings; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Philip and Susan Schade and Clifton and Shelley Schade, all of Hastings, and Mitchell Schade of Juniata; two daughters and sons-in-law, Leona and Gerald Kokes of Arcadia and Gloria and Jeff Farber of Hastings; and two brothers and a sister-in-law, John Petersen and Jeff and Ruby Petersen, all of Boelus.

Additional survivors include 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

She grew up on the family farm in Boelus. She attended school at Boelus Public Schools. She was united in marriage to Gaylord Schade on April 14 1951,in Grand Island. The couple farmed near Farwell until 1984. They moved to Wood River where she worked as a homemaker. In July of 1997, the couple moved to Good Samaritan Village in Hastings.

Gaylord and Miriam were past members of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, where she taught Bible School for 11 years. She enjoyed gardening and raising flowers, all animals, and baking. She also enjoyed her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Herman, Gilbert, Richard and Stanley Petersen; one infant sister, Lemay and one sister, Evelyn Quest.
