Longtime Thermopolis resident, Betty J. Mills, 90, died Sunday, September 21, 2014 at the Cody West Park County Hospital after a period of declining health. She and her husband were presently residing at the Thermopolis Rehabilitation and Care Center in Thermopolis after living in Cody several years where they were near family.

Born January 8, 1924 in Ord, Nebraska, she was the daughter of Chris and Christina (Rasmussen) Sorensen. The family moved to Thermopolis when Betty was a young child. She graduated from Thermopolis High School.
On February 15, 1947 she married Melvin C. "Chuck" Mills in Thermopolis. The couple raised three daughters.

Betty worked as a store clerk at JC Penney's, Corner Drug and Friedl's Clothing Store. A people person, she enjoyed her work. Her pastime included reading and holding every office in the Post #2281 VFW Auxiliary. She also served as VFW State and District President. She was a member of the Community Federated Church.

Preceding her in death were her parents and two brothers, Russell and Robert Sorensen.

Loved ones surviving include her husband, Chuck, of 67 years; sister, Peggy Ready; daughters, Jean Keiser, Linda Barrett and Kristy Kostelecky Cross; five grandchildren; eight great grandchildren and two great, great grandchildren.
