You were adored so highly, you dear!
Therefore we now must bear the sorrow
Out here in this foreign land.
Yes, husband and children you loved sincerely,
But here you were suddenly laid to rest
And never can be called back.

We will hope the knowledge of the Lord
Will always be upon our wanderings.
Be with us in the hope, surely
To meet the one for whom we sorrow
Where neither loss or opposition shall be found
But to view Him, the Lord Christ.

Note: In 1872 Jens and his family had just arrived in America and were in Chicago. There, Jens' wife Dorthea and youngest son Anton died within a few days of each other. Jens wrote this memorial for Dorthea and buried her and his son in Chicago then moved on, with his 3 remaining children, Peter S., Peder O., and Maren, to settle in Dannebrog, Nebraska area.

Dorthe blev gift med Jens Petersen Sixhøj [42307] [MRIN: 15238], søn af Mourids Peder Jensen Sixhøj [42141] og Else Marie Pedersdatter [42306], den 5 Nov. 1858 i Skjoldborg Sogn, Hundborg Herred, Thisted Amt.²¹⁷⁷⁸ (Jens Petersen Sixhøj [42307] blev født den 18 Mar. 1829 i Sjørring Sogn, Hundborg Herred, Thisted Amt, dåb den 29 Mar. 1829 i Sjørring Sogn, Hundborg Herred, Thisted Amt,²¹⁷⁸² døde den 14 Mar. 1908 i Dry Creek, Pierce, Howard County, Nebraska, United States og blev begravet i Mar. 1908 i Dannebrog, Howard County, Nebraska, United States.). Årsagen til hans død var bronchitis & cystitus.
