Marie Jacobsen Dies; Burial Was in Ord

Marie Wentworth Jacobsen, daughter of John A. and Margaret Ramsey Wentworth, was born October 11, 1895 at Ord, Nebraska and died October 29, 1982 at Milwaukee, Wisconsin at the age of 87. Marie received her early education at Ord and was a 1913 graduate of the Ord High School. Marie taught for five years in the rural schools in the Valley County area. She was a Junior High School principal for the Ord City Schools for three years. Marie then graduated from the University of Nebraska with a B.A. Degree in 1925 with Phi Beta Kappa and Pi Lambda Theta honors. Marie then was a principal and normal training teacher for the Friend High School for three years. On June 10, 1928, Marie was united in marriage to Ole I. Jacobsen at Ord. The couple first made their home in Tulsa, OK where Ole taught in the Education Department of the University of Tulsa for two years. Ole and Marie then moved to Appleton, WI for two years where he was an Assistant Music Professor at Lawrence College; then to Iowa where he attended the University of Iowa. The couple then moved to Illinois where Ole taught in the Education and Psychology Departments of Shurtleff College. Ole served as Major in the U.S. Army Adjutant General Department from 1942-1946 at which time the couple lived in Washington D.C., Detroit, IL, Fort Sill, OK and New York City. Ole and Marie moved to Milwaukee, WI in 1949 where he was a Counseling Psychologist for the V.A Hospital for over 20 years. Marie was a member of the Westminister Presbyterian Church of Milwaukee, and the D.A.R. And a fifty year member of the PEO, both of Milwaukee.
Survivors include her husband, Dr. Ole I. Jacobsen of Milwaukee, WI.; one daughter, Mrs. Gilbert (Joan Marie) Bourcier of Richmond, VA; two sisters, Mrs. Marjorie Sorensen of Grand Island and Mrs. Lois M. Love of Oskaloosa, IA; and three grandsons. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Frances Garner and Marguerita Stark. Funeral services were held November 3, 1982 at 10:30 am at Jacobsen Funeral Home in St. Paul with the Rev. Robert McLeod officiating. Mrs. Burt Johnson was the organist and Mrs. Dale Johnson, the soloist. Pallbearers were Lars Jacobsen, Milton Jacobsen, LaVerne Jacobsen, Gaylord Mickelsen, and James P. Jacobsen III. Burial was in the Ord City Cemetery.
